Job established a template for husbands:

Let us talk about Job and how he continuously repented and made sacrifices daily. In Job days sacrifices under the Law were made at specific times during the year. That was the standard obligation under the Law. However, it’s clear that God also allowed space for those who voluntarily came to Him to offer sacrifices. These individuals moved the heart of God, and I believe Job was one of them.

God had a special place in His heart for Job. Scripture says: "There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil" (Job 1:8). It maybe speculated that Job may have felt the need to “do extra,” possibly for personal reasons. But the Bible tells us that while his children were feasting, Job would rise early in the morning and offer burnt offerings for each of them (see Job 1:5). As a result, there was a hedge of protection around him and his household. “Have You not put a hedge around him and his household and everything he has?” (Job 1:10)—because of his faithful sacrifices and the favor he found with God.

Job’s life and actions reflect what God has placed in my heart concerning families. Job stood in the gap. He made sacrifices on behalf of his children. Though the Bible doesn’t tell us exactly how, I believe he most likely called out each of their names before God. He earnestly interceded, and the Bible affirms that his household was covered.

That’s the key—Job covered his household.

He took his role as a man of God seriously. "The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much" (James 5:16b). Job made daily sacrifices before the Lord. He lived out what the Word teaches: “Be on guard. Stand firm in the faith. Be courageous. Be strong” (1 Corinthians 16:13). He knew his family was a divine assignment and built altars through righteous living, prayer, and sacrifice. In turn, God protected his family so completely that Satan could not touch them without divine permission.

Today, Satan often gains access to families because husbands fail to make those daily sacrifices. Too many women are bearing burdens they were never meant to carry. “The Lord searches all hearts and understands every plan and thought” (1 Chronicles 28:9), and I believe He sees the weight woman bear. Women step into spiritual battles because the men in their homes have failed to do so.

That is why many women find ourselves spiritually exhausted and in warfare there were never designed to fight. But we serve a God who restores. “He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak” (Isaiah 40:29).

Job set the example. He woke up every morning and stood in the gap for his household.  God had placed the primary responsibility on Job, and he fulfilled it—until the moment the hedge was lifted.

But Job established a template for husbands:

If they spiritually cover their families, the enemy cannot easily penetrate. “The Lord is faithful, and He will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one” (2 Thessalonians 3:3). There is a covenant—deep and divine—that God honors between Himself and righteous husbands who lead their homes in obedience and faith.

That’s what righteous living is:

It’s daily sacrifice, it’s living set apart, it’s “speaking the truth in love” (Ephesians 4:15), worshipping God, and by extension, activating divine protection. “The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear Him, and delivers them” (Psalm 34:7). Job didn’t sacrifice out of fear; he did it out of covenant, commitment, and love. He knew he couldn’t do it alone—“Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,” says the Lord (Zechariah 4:6).

This level of spiritual commitment is needed in Christian household. Today, Fathers, husbands, choose to rebuild that altar. “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord” (Joshua 24:15).
